3 Years, Wolf Tribute, and AI Speech Models šŸ”Š

This is your monthly dose of Full Send.

Howdy šŸ‘‹. It’s JUNE. There’s been a lot happening this year, huh?

We’ve turned the page into the season of summer and with that comes kid camps, travel, business iteration, and a bit more time for creative thinking. Recently on LinkedIn, I made the statement that NOT everybody has the same 24 hours. I made that statement in reference to having toddlers at home, because well…time is just different.

The comments on that post were as literal as ā€œ1 hour is 1 hourā€ to the too close to home comment of, ā€œI feel this in my soulā€. Fundamentally, time is the most precious asset on our life’s balance sheet and how we use it will drive our outcomes - positively or negatively. Every minute is an investment.

I want you to spend your 4 minutes reading (or skimming) this to gain some kind of knowledge, encouragement, or inspiration. We value your time. Thanks for being here.

To frame our update: we help growing companies elevate outcomes. Period. We do that through exceptional accounting and operations services while blending the best of human and artificial intelligence to create sustainability and scalability.

Let’s Dive In šŸ‘‡

šŸ’„ TL;DR

  1. It Was All a Dream, I Used to Read Word Up…

  2. Is AI Eliminating Entry-Level Jobs?

  3. A Tribute to Wolf

  4. You Might Buy a Mac Mini

  5. Do people in blue zones actually live longer?

✊ It Was All A DREAM

I hope you got the reference. If not, I’m sorry, now we know who’s hot, who’s not.

ok, i’ll stop. (Notorious B.I.G…if you missed the 90’s)

Full Send recently celebrated our 3 year anniversary. I shared my reflections on lessons learned from the last 3 years here.

Our mission has always been to elevate outcomes for our team, our clients, and our community. We measure success in a variety of ways, but primarily based on our client and team feedback.

Here are some recent quotes we’ve received from clients:

You have changed how we think about our business. I really couldn’t have done it without you.

- CEO, SaaS

We've been with Full Send for about 2 years, where the team took us from cash to accrual accounting. When we joined we were just under $X in sales and have grown since. Once clean up and live reporting were setup, we had a much better idea of where we were at. We LOVED the team from the beginning.

- CEO, CPG

We LOVE the team. Your attention to detail and ability to understand our business and create a better operational rhythm has made us feel so much more comfortable with you at the helm.

- CEO, Agency

When clients started first signing with Full Send, I was actually brought to tears. Joyful tears based on the fact that someone would trust a new little firm to help them manage their dollars. Our mission has remained constant. Our team has grown to 16 incredible people and we’ve had the opportunity to serve over 75 clients in a variety of capacities. Every day we are grateful to continue pushing our mission forward for our team, our clients, and our community.

Here’s a throwback picture to our first office space that only fit Stacey and me. She made me take the picture, and I’m glad she did.

Circa 2023. Stacey’s leap.

Fast-forward to today and we’re continuing to make waves with our team, our culture, and our impact on the industry. At a recent conference I spoke at, an attendee said -

I think Full Send is 10 years ahead of the industry!

It’s funny to hear that as we’re laser focused on how can we stay ahead of the curve, serve our clients better, and create a rewarding environment for our team. Despite that focus, it’s easy to think that we’ve got so far to go.

Alas, we are proud of our impact to date and have BIG PLANS to continue down that path. If you or anyone you know is struggling with accountant complacency syndrome - reach out, we’ll turn that right around. We’re all in. Full Send.

Always feel free to encourage folks to reach out directly or to say hello at howdy(at)THEFULLSEND.com.

😬 Is AI eliminating Entry-Level Knowledge Jobs??

If you’ve been paying attention to the AI scene lately, you may have seen Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, share a darker view on future employment:

  • AI could eliminate 50% of all entry-level white collar jobs

    • Unemployment could spike 10-20% in the next 1-5 years

    • Technology, finance, law, consulting, and other white collar professions are at risk of seeing the biggest job loss

  • Nobody is paying attention

    • There is too much focus on the benefit and not the risks

    • For people under 30, entry level jobs are ā€œgoing to be evisceratedā€

šŸ‘‰ WE’RE GOING TO BE OK? RIGHT? WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? šŸ‘ˆ

If you clicked into that article, it paints a pretty…interesting scenario. Here’s where I remain optimistic, even if we have AI launching toward human-level reasoning:

  • Importance of collaboration & relationships will spike

    1. In a world where machine language will begin to dominate, a premium will be placed on those that communicate effectively, express deep empathy, and can connect the dots to help others solve problems.

    2. Increased dependency on machines will drive loneliness and isolation upward. The craving to work alongside of other humans will continue to exist and likely increase in the future. Community and relationships is, and always be, core to success.

  • The creative and strategic professionals will win

    1. Instead of ā€œHow do I get this done faster?ā€ The question becomes, ā€œHow can I leverage machines to generate insights that others can’t?ā€

    2. Insights over input. We must creatively and strategically become the bridge between data inputs and strategic action.

  • Execution will trump ideation and application

    1. There are dozens of AI tools that can help me with marketing, content creation, transactional accounting, legal documents, etc. I’m looking to other professionals to leverage those tools and efficiently execute on my behalf.

    2. Providing a professional service is as simple as taking care of tasks for others that they don’t want to (or don’t know how to) complete. The tasks may change, but there will always be an execution element that someone else will be willing to pay for. Skate to where the puck is going.

The endgame is to continue fostering high-caliber relationships and to solve problems. New problems continue to emerge every day. The blueprint for professional services hasn’t changed. Build relationships and solve problems. Entry-level workers must adopt to contextual problem solving earlier, but opportunities will continue to exist ✊.

🫶 Out Living It — A Tribute:

The news of Ryan O’Donoghue’s passing rocked my world. In my phone, he’s just ā€œWolfā€. Over the last two years, I had come to know Wolf through our partnership with First Descents. A non-profit organization that believes in the healing power of nature (and community). They provide life-changing outdoor adventures for young adults impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions.

Ryan was at the helm of First Descents for the last 12 years. Nobody called him Ryan. His (and everyone at First Descents’) nickname was derived from an experience with FD where he ā€˜earned’ his name or was given his name by other participants in the program. If you spend enough time around the group, you’ll find that everyone has a First Descents Nickname - it becomes a new identity. Participants in the program wear their ā€˜new name’ like a badge of honor. Ryan was Wolf.

Wolf’s brother, Colin, passed away in 2005 after battling cancer. He was 28 years old. Since that time, Wolf made it his life mission to help young adults navigate the uncharted waters of a cancer diagnosis. He put his heart and his skills to work to provide mental, emotional, and physical healing to others. On May 9th, after battling his own struggles, he took his own life. This Colorado Sun article provides a touching tribute. A tearful one, but one worth reading.

Ryan O’Donoghue - executive director of First Descents, a group that offers adventure camps to young adults with life-threatening illnesses.

Heartbreaking. Devastating. Unbelievable. Shocking. There are no words. Whether or not you knew Wolf, you likely know somebody like him. Somebody who is crushing it. Somebody who is constantly helping others. Somebody who makes everyone around them feel cared for. Somebody who needs help, but may not ask for it because they’re so concerned about helping others.

It’s easy to get so wrapped up in our own worlds and not take the extra 10 seconds to send that text. To make that call. To reach out to that friend. To genuinely ask how someone is doing. This newsletter is usually about finance, business, and full sends, but sometimes we have to take a quick pause to reflect on the things that are way more important. I’d encourage you today to reach out to that person that popped into your head a few moments ago. It is a crushing loss, but we can all carry Wolf’s spirit forward.

Rest in peace, Ryan ā€œWolfā€ O’Donoghue.

šŸš€ Need to know: Business News

> Apparel Brands in The Tariff Spotlight. Back in April, I released a podcast on strategies for managing tariffs in the Full Send CFO podcast. Recently, WSJ outlined exactly how apparel brands have been managing tariffs with their vendors. In the video, I mention that shifting supply chains should be a last resort and instead businesses should focus on leveraging their longstanding vendor relationships to negotiate better partnership structures. The tariff landscape is still shifting, so stay savvy and continue to maintain open lines of communication with your suppliers. (How Apparel Brands Are Negotiating Tariffs)

> Text to Speech Model Updates. Maybe you’ve used ChatGPT, but have you looked at ElevenLabs’ text to speech AI? It used to be good, not great. It lacked a certain…voice. Like, a real one. Now, you’ve got emotion, you’ve got multi-speaker dialogue, expressions, and conversational use cases. It’s mind blowing to see how it’s coming to life. You can let your imagination run wild with scenarios that you could use this for - podcasts, SOP explanations, product demos, or embedded into an AI-Sales Agent to take calls for you. Wild. Below is an audio reading of this paragraph. Note how the v3 alpha is still reading the expression prompts… (Click Through To See The Newest Model In Action)

Hot Hardware Take āš”ļø

Two months ago, a good friend and tech Guru - Chad Davis, posted on LinkedIn about how working on a Mac Mini desktop computer changed his entire work set up. I was intrigued. Never had it ever crossed my mind that it would make sense, but his video was compelling.

I had the chance to enjoy a nice dinner with Chad and the topic of Mac Mini’s came up and a week later I had a completely new home desktop set up.

Since then, I’ve had several folks reach out saying that they’re now working entirely on a Mac Mini at home and LOVE it. I’m right there with them.

Mac Mini set up. Thanks, Chad.
